 In the deep blue waters of the Laconian gulf, the lovers of the scuba diving can explore the surrounding natural beauties. In the area, you will find some of the oldest Byzantine churches in Greece, most of them in rather good condition.
With starting-point Skoutari, you can visit several places.In less than 15’, you will reach the beautiful Gytheio, built amphitheatrically, overseeing its port.
 
We propose to make the roundtrip of the Mani Peninsula, with incredible rock formations, deep blue seas and the man-made tower settlements, churches, cobblestone pavements, stone-terraces. You will also meet loft and proud Maniots, still living in the glorious past.
 Starting from the stone built Areopolis and Limeni (the village of Mavromihalis, one of the leaders of the Greek revolutation) with its beautiful harbor and 20’ after, in the same direction, are the famous Sweetwater Caves of Diros, with their unique colors . Shortly after, follows Gerolimenas and afterwards , Vathia, a Tower village, known for its traditional architecture. A few km after, you will reach the most southern point of Europe’s mainland, cape Tainaron, where there is the temple of Poseidon and the entrance to Hades, the Greek underworld. Returning from the sunward Mani (east Mani), the east side of the peninsula and concluding the round-trip, you will first encounter a tiny harbor Porto Kayio, a notorious hiding point of pirates. Then, Lagia, a traditional tower village and finishing the round-trip, you will pass through Flomohori, Kotronas and you will return to Skoutari.
Northwards, near Sparta, you can visit the seigniory of Mystras, with its monumental churches and the overseeing fortress built by Villehardouin.
Also, the Mycenean tombs of Selasia and the Byzantine castle at Geraki.
And of course, don’t miss visiting the Castle of Monemvasia.
